Superdome
The Louisiana Superdome was begun in 1971 and finished in 1975. For many years it was the largest domed building in the world. It has hosted seven Super Bowls, more than any other stadium.
In the 1960’s there were politicians who wanted to have a professional football team in New Orleans. After much discussion and planning, the NFL awarded Louisiana a team when the state committed to build a stadium large enough for the team to play in.
Part of the land that the Superdome was built on had been a cemetery. Some people say that’s the reason the Saints have been so unsuccessful.
