Snowballs
In New Orleans, we take delicious snowballs for granted. But did you know that in other parts of the country, snowballs are called snow cones, and they really don’t taste as good? For this wonderful treat, we have a man named George Ortolano to thank.
In 1937, Mr. Ortolano slipped away into his workshop with the intention of inventing a new machine. The snow cone machines of the day turned ice into rough chunks of ice crystals. He wanted to invent a machine that that would turn ice into snow. The result was the SnoWizard Snowball Machine. With the delicious syrups cooked up by inventive New Orleanians, we have been enjoying the results ever since.
