Jazz
Jazz music was born in New Orleans sometime around 1895. It was a combination of several different types of music of the day. Jazz was different from other music for this reason – other music was written on paper, and the musicians tried their best to play the music just as it was written. But since many jazz musicians were often poor blacks who couldn’t read music, they played popular songs their own way, often making up notes as they went along. This made for a new and exciting way to make music. One of the most famous jazz musicians from New Orleans was Louis Armstrong. The New Orleans International Airport in Kenner was recently renamed the Louis Armstrong Airport.
